Luxury Lounge Interior Design

Lounges are one of the most important spaces in a family home, they are a place to come together and relax, chat and play. Getting a lounge interior design right is about balancing all the different elements of furniture, colour, materials, lighting, ambience, storage, technology and comfort. These are some of my latest lounge interior designs.

Further Inspiration

Designing a lounge is about creating a flexible setting for all the various uses of the room. Whether its cosying up on the sofa together to watch a movie as a family, relaxing in the evening with a glass of wine while listening to music. Or having your friends over for a coffee and a catch-up your lounge wants to be versatile and comfortable.

The key to this is often the room layout, the position of the TV can often dictate this but there are other considerations. The view out the window, the position of the door. Whether you would like a more formal conversation arrangement or a relaxed corner sofa all have an impact. I work with my clients to establish how they are going to use the space to create the optimal layout for their family lifestyle.

Once the layout is set, choosing the right furniture, materials and colour scheme is next. I love this part of my job! Creating a vision for clients that brings together so many details to make a cohesive whole is really rewarding. Layering textures and fabrics is a way to add interest and depth to a lounge space even if you are going for a neutral colour scheme. Adding in colour and pattern can really bring a space to life.  Just make sure it’s designed well so that it deosn’t become over powering. Lastly designing bespoke joinery will make a space totally personal and unique. Another benefit of bespoke joinery is providing customised storage or display space. One of the things I specialise in, is bespoke joinery for my projects.

Lighting is also key. Create different scenes that will take you from day to night. Have an awareness of how the different lighting levels will impact the appearance of colour and materials in the space. Crucially, using dimmable light will give you the most flexibility and can be layered in downlights, chandeliers, lamps and joinery lighting.

Once it’s all installed I will style and accessorise a lounge for my interior design clients. There are so many amazing options for lounges, books, candles, sculptures, artwork, games, fireplace accessories, photo frames, flowers. It’s important to choose things that appeal to your interests and make the space feel personal to you.
